2020 VCE Results and School Achievements

This year 38 students achieved perfect ATAR of 99.95, with 32 boys and 6 girls.

As usual, girls outperformed boys, achieving an average ATAR of 69.45 compared with 66.60 for their male counterparts. The average ATAR for all students was 68.14.

A total of 14,215 students received a study score of 40 or above in at least one subject, putting them in the top 9 per cent in the state.

Lauriston Girls' School - Median VCE ATAR 87.2, 41% of students achieved an ATAR above 90

  • 18% were in top 5% of state with an ATAR of 95 and above

With more than half of our students ranking in the top 10% of the state, our girls should feel proud that they have shown remarkable resilience and commitment to their education, particularly given the challenging 2020 learning environment.

In addition:

  • 84% ranked in top 20% of state with an ATAR of 80 and above
  • 36% ranked in top 5% of state with an ATAR of 95 and above

Our VCE and overall Dux, Claire Lin, was in the top 1% of the state with an ATAR of 99.8 and has been invited to an interview for Medicine at Monash University. Amelia Zhu is our IB Dux with an ATAR of 99.75 and would also like to study medicine at either Monash or Melbourne University.  Another student, Bridget Clarke achieved perfect study score of 50 in VCE English.

Haileybury College Two perfect ATAR of 99.95, 38 perfect Study Scores of 50

  • highest possible ATAR scores of 99.95 were achieved by Oscar Jeffrey and Jun Wen Lin.
  • 51% of students attained an ATAR of 90 and above, placing them in the top 10% in Australia.
  • 29% of Haileybury Girls College Study Scores were 40 and above.
  • 27% of Haileybury College Study Scores were 40 and above.
  • 7.5% of students attained an ATAR of 99 and above, placing them in the top 1% in Australia.
  • 32% of students attained an ATAR of 95 and above, placing them in the top 5% of Australia.
  • 94% of students were placed in the top 40% in Australia.
  • 38 Study Scores of the maximum 50 were achieved in 8 different subjects.
  • 12 students from Year 11 attained maximum Study Scores of 50.
  • Haileybury recorded a median ATAR of 91.

Yarra Valley Grammar School One perfect ATAR of 99.95, 41 % of students received an ATAR over 90

63 % of students received an ATAR of 80 or above, while 41 % of students received an ATAR over 90.  The Dux of the School is Eric Liu who achieved a perfect ATAR of 99.95.  There were eleven perfect study scores of 50 and 21.3 % of students received a study score of 40 or above. The median study score for the year was 34.  The VCE results of our Class of 2020 are therefore the strongest for Yarra since the VCE was introduced.

Wesley College Combined Median ATAR 86.40, 16% of Wesley students attained an ATAR of 90.00 and above

We extend our congratulations to our Class of 2020 students on their VCE and International Baccalaureate (IB) results. In 2020, 374 students completed their Year 12 studies; 56% of our Year 12 students studied the VCE, and 44% studied the IB DP.

At a glance:

*The IB DP median ATAR was 94.05. *The Wesley combined median ATAR for VCE and IB DP was 86.40. *Two Wesley students achieved the highest possible ATAR of 99.95. *46% of Wesley students attained an ATAR of 90.00 and above, placing them in the top 10% of the equivalent Year 12 cohort in Australia. *Almost two thirds of Wesley students (64%) achieved an ATAR of 80.00 and above, placing them in the top 20% of the equivalent Year 12 cohort in Australia.

Our 2020 College VCE Dux, Junxi (Kevin) Zhang, achieved an ATAR of 99.35. Our 2020 College joint IB DP Duces Grace Danielson and Matthew Hobbs each achieved an ATAR of 99.95.

Kilvington Grammar - 84% of our students were in the top 25% of the State (achieving an ATAR of 75 plus)

• Three students at Kilvington Grammar achieved an ATAR above 99. • 4% of our students were in the top 1% of the State (achieving an ATAR of 99 plus) • 9% of our students were in the top 2% of the State (achieving an ATAR of 98 plus) • 38% of our students were in the top 10% of the State (achieving an ATAR of 90 plus) • 84% of our students were in the top 25% of the State (achieving an ATAR of 75 plus) • Perfect Study Scores of 50 were achieved in Psychology and Biology.

Mentone Girls' Grammar School - 37% of the Class achieved ATARs of 90+

Dux Ella Phillips achieved a perfect score of 99.95 Dux Secundus is Christina Song who achieved an impressive 99.8! 5% of the Class achieved ATARs of 99+ 17% of the Class achieved ATARs of 95+ 37% of the Class achieved ATARs of 90+ 53% of the Class achieved ATARs of 85+ 72% of the Class achieved ATARs of 80+

Korowa Anglican Girls’ School - Median ATAR of 91.27

• 6.76% of students achieved an ATAR of 99 or higher • 35.14% of students achieved an ATAR of 95 or above • 55.41% of students achieved an ATAR of 90 or above • Six perfect study scores of 50 • Median ATAR – 91.27

Tintern Grammar - Median ATAR of 75.15 and Median Study Score of 31

• VCE DUX, Tara Carson who achieved an ATAR of 97.30 • 19% of Tintern VCE students achieved an ATAR score above 90 (19% last year) • 32% of students achieved an ATAR Score above 85, which is a continued improvement on our results from 2018 and 2019.  • Our Median ATAR of 75.15 and our Median Study Score of 31 maintains the strong trends of academic success at our School.  • We also had 1 perfect Study Score of 50 in hospitality (49 was the highest score last year).

• Our IB cohort achieved a median IB score of 37 (2019 – 34). • Our IB cohort achieved a median ATAR of 95.45 (2019 – 91.40). • 4 students will receive an IB Award (6 in 2019).

• Median ATAR: 81.33 (2019 – 81.25) • 47% of Tintern students received an ATAR of 85+ placing them in the top 15% of the nation. • Just over one third of Tintern students attained an ATAR of greater than 90+, placing them in the top 10% of the nation. • 18% of Tintern students attained an ATAR of 95+ placing them in the top 5% of the nation.

Presbyterian Ladies’ College Median ATAR of 93.2, 63% achieved an ATAR of 90+, 41% achieved 95+, 19% achieved 98+ and an incredible 13% achieved 99+

Of the 125 Year 12 students enrolled in VCE, 13 per cent achieved an ATAR of 99 or above.

More than 60 per cent of the class received an ATAR of 90 or above.

The school also offers International Baccalaureate. IB students throughout the state will have to wait until early February for their results.

An outstanding 63% achieved an ATAR of 90+, 41% achieved 95+, 19% achieved 98+ and an incredible 13% achieved 99+. The median ATAR for our VCE students is 93.2! We look forward to sharing the results of our 37 IB girls this Sunday.

Melbourne Girls Grammar School Median ATAR of 89.47, 50% obtained an ATAR of 90 or more

Methodist Ladies College Median study score of 36, 47% achieved an ATAR of 90 or above

  • 16 students, 7% of the cohort, achieved 99 or above, placing them in the top 1% of the state.
  • 27% were in the top 5% of the state with an ATAR of 95 or above
  • 47% were in the top 10% of the state with an ATAR of 90 or above
  • An outstanding 21 perfect study scores were achieved in 14 subjects: Accounting, Biology, Business Management (2), VCE VET Business (2), Chemistry (2), Food Studies, Languages: Chinese First Language, Further Mathematics, Mathematical Methods, Media, Physical Education (3), Psychology, Visual Communication and Design, and VCE VET Sport and Recreation (2).

Congratulations to Brooke Doolan, Anya Ross and Devyn Ross who are our VCE Duces each achieving an ATAR of 99.90, and our VCE Duces Secundae Kirrily Bortolussi, Saskia Bortolussi, Eva Katsoulis and Sayumi Premaratne who each achieved an ATAR of 99.85.

Scotch College Six perfect ATAR of 99.95, median ATAR of 88.6, 47% achieved an ATAR of 90 or above

Rion Ahl, Yichen Jiang, Yang (Gordon) Jin, Nicholas Kluckow, Joshua Poon, and Darren Tan each received an ATAR of 99.95, and are, therefore, the duces of Scotch College for 2020 Six boys (2.4% of the cohort) obtained an ATAR of 99.90 or more (top 0.1% in the population) 21 boys (8.3% of the cohort) obtained an ATAR of 99.50 or more (top 0.5% in the population) 32 boys (12.6% of the cohort) obtained an ATAR of  99.00 or more (top 1% in the population) 53 boys (20.9% of the cohort) obtained an ATAR of  98 or more (top 2% in the population) 92 boys (36.4% of the cohort) obtained an ATAR of  95 or more (top 5% in the population) 118 boys (46.6% of the cohort) obtained an ATAR of  90 or more (top 10% in the population) 170 boys (67.2% of the cohort) obtained an ATAR of  80 or more (top 20% in the population) The median ATAR was 88.6

There were 21 ‘perfect’ scores of 50 across 11 subjects. Twelve Year 12 boys obtained scores of 50, including: Rion Ahl (English), Sebastian Brasington (French), Adam Champion (Literature and Chemistry), Jay Dingle (Literature), Alex Fan (English), Thomas Hill (Psychology), Yichen Jiang (Mathematical Methods and Physics),Yang (Gordon) Jin (Mathematical Methods, Physics, and Specialist Mathematics), Nicholas Kluckow (Biology), Darren Tan (English), Jeff Wang (Further Mathematics) and Alexander Wood (German). Five Year 11 boys obtained scores of 50, including: Ryan Ahl (Mathematical Methods), Andres Buritica Monroy (Mathematical Methods), Edmund Fang (Mathematical Methods) and William McCann (Mathematical Methods).

Melbourne Grammar School Two students got ATAR 99.95, median ATAR of 86.70

The median ATAR is 86.70 10.4% of our students achieved an ATAR of 99+, placing them in the top 1% of the State 29.4% of our students achieved an ATAR of 95+, placing them in the top 5% of the State 44.8% of our students achieved an ATAR of 90+, placing them in the top 10% of the State Nine students achieved the maximum score of 50 in one or more of their subjects 6.6% of all study (subject) scores were graded as 45+, placing those students in the top 1% of their subjects 23.4% of all study (subject) scores were graded as 40+, placing those students in the top 8% of their subjects

Camberwell Grammar School - Median ATAR is 90.65, 3 perfect ATAR of 99.95

Camberwell Grammar School: 13% in top 1% (99 or more), 33% over 95, and 51% over 90

Brighton Grammar School One perfect ATAR of 99.95, 49 % of students received an ATAR over 90

  • 1 achieved a top ATAR of 99.95 of only 38 students in Victoria
  • 14  (10%) boys scored an ATAR of 99 or above, placing them in the top 1% of students in Australia
  • 43  (29%) boys scored an ATAR of 95 or above, placing them in the top 5% of students in Australia
  • 71 (49%) boys scored an ATAR of 90 or above, placing them in the top 10% of students in Australia
  • 87.95 median ATAR score

Bialik College Median ATAR of 94.6, median study score of 38

Nearly 40% of study scores were above 40 with dux Zac Weller receiving an ATAR of 99.9

Mount Scopus - Two perfect ATARs, 6.8% (6.2% in 2019) achieved an ATAR of 99 or above

Mount Scopus Memorial College: 95 per cent scored above 70.

Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School - Median ATAR of 88.45 (87.35  in 2019)

5% of students in the top 0.5% and 45% in the top 10% of the state

MacRobertson Girls High School Median ATAR of 95.53, 79.8% achieved an ATAR of 90+

John Monash Science School One perfect score of 99.95, Median ATAR of 91.70

Balwyn High School One perfect ATAR of 99.95

It’s the eighth year in a row a student from the school has achieved a perfect ATAR of 99.95. 20 students received an ATAR above 99 and the school recorded 12 study scores of 50 across six subjects.

Box Hill High School Median study score of 32, four perfect study scores

55% achieved ATARs of 80+.

The school dux was Ervin Salem with an ATAR of 99.85.

McKinnon Secondary College Median study score 33.21

88 students attained an ATAR above 90.

A joint dux for the second year running: Mia Trauffler and Thuy Khue Nguyen both achieved an ATAR of 99.9.

Glen Eira College - Median study score increased to 31 from 30 (in 2019)

Mount Waverley Secondary College 44% achieved an ATAR of 80+
