Do I need to register a subdomain? Subdomains or subdirectories?

For subdomains, there is no registration Fee! You can create as many subdomains as you want. You do not need to go to a domain name registrar and pay an annual fee for each of them. The hosting companies can create a subdomain within minutes and hence there is no charge normally. Check your hosting company to find out how many subdomains they support your site for free.

Large companies or busy websites can have a few servers, departments, or business functions. It's necessary to use subdomains for the benefit of scalability. However, for a smaller size site, before using subdomains, you need to consider subdirectories as the alternative. For most other sites, subdirectories work fine. You will save time in setting up the subdomains and managing them. When your site grows bigger or you are comfortable with using subdomains, do it then.
