Q:

Hello – I have come from the UK where schools have regular inspections every few years and reports are produced about all aspects of schooling including welfare, results, safety etc. Do schools in Australia undergo a similar inspection carried out by a government dept? How can I compare schools on aspects other than simply results?

A:

Do schools in Australia undergo a similar inspection carried out by a government dept?

Yes. However, the inspection could be just government schools only, or a random selection of schools. It depends on individual state or territory. There is no nationally unified audit because the schools are managed by states and territories in Australia.

For example,

Queensland state primary schools audit

Queensland state high schools audit

However, due to the characteristics of the state audits in Australia, there are limited data which are publically available.

You can contact schools directly such as attending open days or arranging school visits. Or you can post questions on schools profile pages to see what other parents say about the other aspects of the schools.
